PREPARATIONS

SHOPPING LIST
  • 1 – 1×10 @ 2 feet long
  • 1 – 1×4 @ 3 feet long
  • 2″ self-tapping wood screws (try spax or similar, look for the star bit ones, can use trim screws)
  • 3″ self-tapping wood screws for hanging the bike holder on the wall (you’ll just need two)
  • Wood glue
  • Handle and hooks
CUT LIST
  • 1 – 1×10 @ 12″ – back
  • 1 – 1×10 @ 10-1/2″ – bottom
  • 2 – 1×4 @ 10″ – sides
  • 1 – 1×4 @ 12″  – front

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Notch the sides out of the back with a jigsaw to match the ends of your 1×4 boards.

STEP 2

Attach the two side 1x4s to the back, with two screws into the back.  If wood splits, take a second to predrill holes.  Use ample glue – this is a structural joint.

STEP 3

Attach bottom to sides and back with glue and screws.  Predrill screw holes if necessary.

STEP 4

Attach front to the shelf.  The front is not structural – you can use 1-1/4″ brad nails if you have them.

STEP 5

Use jigsaw or hole saw to notch outsides.  The notch does not have to be super deep – just enough to keep the bike from moving on the shelf.

Hang the bike holder on the wall with 3″ or longer screws into a stud in the wall with at least two screws.
